Where the Money Goes

The Raise Our Game campaign has three distinct funding opportunities that will allow Georgetown to maintain and enhance the experience of the student-athletes who wear the Blue and Gray:

Operating Dollars - Annual dollars through Hoyas Unlimited, Reunion, and other annual fund programs, as well as larger current-use gifts, will be critical to sustaining excellence in Athletics. Annual giving to Athletics has increased by 58 percent since FY2006 – $4.1 million from $2.4 million, but must grow even further to impact all 29 varsity programs. This campaign effort will help identify alumni, parents and friends with a special interest in Georgetown Athletics to continue this growth in its annual fund.

Endowment - Another component of the plan to strengthen the short-term and long-term financial position for Athletics is to increase significantly the endowment dedicated to Athletics. Only the equivalent of five of the 135 scholarships offered by the department are permanently endowed, making Georgetown overly reliant on current-use dollars and operating revenue, and placing the university well behind its peers in endowed scholarships. Athletics has identified fully funding scholarships as its top endowment need, with additional giving opportunities for endowing coaching chairs and operational support. With an average payout of 5 percent, for every $ 1 million of endowment, the Athletics department will receive an additional $50,000 per year, thereby freeing up current, operating budget dollars for additional investment back into our varsity programs.

Capital (facilities) - Modern facilities are essential to a successful athletics program.Georgetown has urgent capital needs with regards to upgrading and improving the core facilities for its student-athletes. Georgetown is currently working to identify and cultivate principal gift level donors to meet its ambitious capital needs. These efforts will occur simultaneously with the fundraising efforts to strengthen the operating budget. As concrete plans for specific facilities come on line, we will update the Raise Our Game website to keep you abreast of our ambitious plans and progress.
