M. Basketball. Monroe Leads the Way, Georgetown Stifles South Florida at BIG EAST, 69-49
Sophomore center Greg Monroe (New Orleans, La./Helen Cox) scored 12 of his team-high 16 points in the second half, leading three players in double figures as No. 8 seed Georgetown limited No. 9 seed South Florida to 29 percent shooting from the floor as the Hoyas topped the Bulls, 69-49, during the second round of the BIG EAST Tournament.
Baseball. Seven-Run Inning Propels Georgetown Past Penn, 13-11
Georgetown scored seven runs in the fifth inning and freshman pitcher Neal Dennison (Houston, Texas/Lamar) allowed two runs over four innings of relief as the Hoyas held on to beat Penn, 13-11, at the Rollins College Baseball Week in Winter Haven, Fla.
W. Lacrosse. No. 5/6 Hoyas Defeat Florida 13-11
The No. 5/6 Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad downed the University of Florida Gators (3-2), 13-11, Tuesday evening in Gainesville, Fla. Senior Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) led the way with five goals and one assist for six points in the game. The Hoyas are now 2-1 on the season with another road game on Saturday at Duke University.
W. Track. Hoyas Lock in Three Individuals and Two Relays at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships
The Georgetown University track & field program is sending three individuals and two relays to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Randal Tyson Track Center at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
Baseball. Adleman Delivers Georgetown Past Rollins, 6-3
Backed by a strong outing from senior pitcher Tim Adleman (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield), Georgetown scored two runs apiece in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, respectively, en route to a 6-3 win over Rollins Collins at the Rollins College Baseball Week in Winter Haven, Fla. Monday night.
M. Lacrosse. Jack Davis Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
After helping lead Georgetown to a pair of wins, including one over a nationally-ranked team, senior goalie Jack Davis (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) was name the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Davis is the first Georgetown player to earn a major weekly award from the conference in its inaugural year of play.
M. Basketball. Monroe Named All-BIG EAST First Team, Freeman Earns Second Team Honors
Georgetown University sophomore center Greg Monroe (New Orleans, La./Helen Cox) was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and junior guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) was selected as an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection in an announcement by league officials on Sunday.
W. Lacrosse. No. 5/5 Georgetown to Play at Florida on Tuesday
The No. 5/5 Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad will continue its four-game nonconference road trip on Tuesday as the Hoyas travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take on the University of Florida Gators. The Blue & Gray is 1-1 on the season after suffering a tough 15-10 loss to No. 1/1 Northwestern on Saturday.
W. Soccer. Georgetown Women's Soccer Announces Spring Schedule
Georgetown University Head Women's Soccer Coach Dave Nolan announced the Hoyas spring schedule, which includes five events, in a matchup at Navy to start the season.
W. Basketball. Hoyas Lose in Double Overtime in the BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinals
A poor shooting night came at a bad time for the No. 12/11 Georgetown women's basketball squad (25-6) Sunday evening as the third-seeded Hoyas fell to the sixth-seeded Rutgers University Scarlet Knights (19-13), 63-56, in double overtime in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament. Georgetown led for much of the game but 26.5 percent shooting from the field and some late misses proved to be the difference as GU was bounced from the tournament.
Softball. Hoyas Fall to Lancers, 7-1
RALEIGH, N.C. - The Georgetown University softball team (6-7) fell behind Longwood (9-6) early and could not muster the offense to put pressure on the Lancers, dropping the decision 7-1 on Sunday morning at the Wolfpack Classic.
W. Basketball. Hoyas to Face Rutgers in BIG EAST Quarterfinals
The third-seeded Georgetown University women's basketball squad will open BIG EAST Tournament play on Sunday with No. 6 Rutgers. The Hoyas had a double bye into the quarterfinals and will now face the Scarlet Knights who defeated Cincinnati 70-44 on Saturday evening.
M. Basketball. Georgetown Earns No. 8 Seed and First Round Bye in BIG EAST Tournament
After an impressive second half led the No. 19 Georgetown University men's basketball team to a win in its regular season finale today, the Hoyas will have a first round bye in the 2010 BIG EAST Championship. Georgetown finished the regular season with a 20-9 overall record and a 10-8 mark in the BIG EAST, finishing in a tie for seventh place in the league and earning the No. 8 seed, and the first round bye, for the tournament.
M. Lacrosse. No. 14 Georgetown Defeats St. John's, 9-6 in Inaugural BIG EAST Conference Game
WASHINGTON - Senior Andrew Brancaccio (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) and redshirt junior Rickey Mirabito (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) scored three goals each to lead the No. 14 Georgetown University men's lacrosse team (2-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) over St. John's (2-1, 0-1 BIG EAST), 9-6. The game was the first between BIG EAST Conference opponents in the inaugural season of BIG EAST men's lacrosse.
M. Basketball. Freeman's 24 Paces No. 19 Hoyas to 74-47 Victory Over Bearcats
Welcome back, Austin Freeman. Georgetown fans are so glad you're feeling better. Six days after being taken to the hospital and diagnosed with diabetes, Freeman scored 24 points Saturday as the No. 19 Hoyas clinched a first-round bye in the Big East tournament with a 74-47 win over Cincinnati in both teams' regular season finale.
